Touch A Truck, Annual Event, Eugene, Oregon
The Touch A Truck fair featured trucks and other vehicles of all sorts for kids to climb on and touch. What was
unexpected were that kids were also allowed to sound the horns.
Adults formed lines so that kids would get a fair chance to sit in a truck cab. Here, the event was still early
and lines were very short.
A fire truck was present at the fair and the doors were open so kids could sit inside. Unfortunately, the
truck was called away during the fair, and vanished shortly after this shot was taken.
The large tractor part of a tractor trailer rig was also there that day.
A vehicle free from military surplus was out of proportion to the role of the sheriff.
A food booth was set up and doing a moderate business. Dinner was available for purchase for $4.00 and included
either a hamburger or hot dog, beans, chips and a drink. Some folks pulled up a spot on the lawn to eat.
The event took place right next to Peterson Park which was handy for kids because of lots of lawn to play on as
well as a nice playground.
Kids moved from one vehicle to another. Here were several kids leaving an LTD bus and approaching other big
trucks. Clearly some kids were amazed by what they saw.
Tractors were there too. Here, an XL 4100 Gradall was in front of a city bus. A young girl sat in the cab to
imagine what it might be like to drive such a large machine.
