The original building, with its 1920's design, had a new marquee installed in 1950. The marquee with its large letter W and red and white colors could easily be confused with a Walgreens store.

A sign erected vertically on the corner of the building spelled out the full name of the theater, "Whiteside." The name Whiteside was from the Whiteside brothers, who were the pioneers of the movie industry in Corvallis. They started with the Palace Theatre in 1908 and eventually operated six more theaters within the city.

A reproduction of an old photograph showed the front of the theater as it actually looked in the 1920's when it was first built. The caption describing the photo read:

Above: The Whiteside Theatre, a few years after its construction in 1922. At this time, the Whiteside brothers had not yet added the reader boards on the marquee to announce the movies to passing motorists and pedestrians.
