Zoro Garden, Balboa Park
|
At the top of the garden was a sign describing its history, and a small map.
The sign read in part:
Zoro Garden is a Butterfly Garden, but has a colorful history that includes a 1935 nudist colony.
The garden was named after Queen Zorine, the lead actress in a pageant that was located in this
sunken garden during the 1935 California-Pacific Exposition.
|
Curved ramps led down into the garden in a wheelchair friendly manner.
This was a well shaded sunken garden.
|
Mature trees bordered this garden, which lent it a comfortable enclosed feeling.
|
This garden is easily accessed from the main mall with its museums and shops.
From inside the view up and out was dramatic.
|
At the bottom of the garden were places to sit and relax.
Here was an unusual bench cut from the trunk of a former tree.
|
At the top of the garden where it led up to the road was a sign
showing the butterflies that would appear there in spring.
|
A sign advised how not to treat the butterflies.
It read:
|
The Zoro Garden as seen from above and looking down into it from the road.
Notice the maintenance truck parked there which allowed a sense of its scale and size.
